English: PRONOUNS

Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. We often use them to avoid repeating the nouns that they refer to. Pronouns have different forms for the different ways we use them.

For eg- I, me, he, him, his, she, her, they, their, etc. are some pronouns.

Let’s Understand with an example:

Lets take example a boy named Joy.

Check: Joy is a boy. Joy is very clever. Joy loves to play. Joy learns English. Joy is also brave.

Now in these sentences the word Joy is repeated number of times which is a Proper Noun. So to avoid repetition of these Nouns, we are using a pronoun. Here in this example we will use ‘He’ instead of ‘Joy’ as a Pronoun

We can write as: Joy is a boy. He is very clever. He loves to play. He learns English. He is also brave.

Using Pronouns in Sentences as per Persons.

In English, we classify the use of nouns and articles based on the persons. Let’s see that how this person is classified on what basis. And later on, we will see how pronouns are used in those cases.

                Persons:

1st Person – Talking about us (I, me)

2nd Person – Talking to other person present in front (You , Yours)

3rd Person – Talking about the person who is not in front of you. (He, she, it, they).

Some Examples:

Use of Pronoun according to Genders:

According to three genders: Masculine, Feminine and Neuter, the usage of pronouns also differs. Let’s Check:

     Genders:

Feminine  (she  her  hers)
             Masculine (he  him  his)
Neuter  (it its  they them their theirs)

Use of Pronouns according to two numbers:

As what we have seen according to the persons, the numbers also matter in using pronouns.  The number here are Singular(single/one) and Plural(many). So let’s have a look how to use pronouns in those case.

Numbers:

Singular (I  me  my  mine  you  your  yours  he  him  his  she  her  hers it its)
Plural  (we  us  our  ours  you  your yours  they  them  their  theirs)
