English: Future Tense


1)       SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE

 

          Simple future Tense is used to talk about an action or condition that will begin and end in the future.

 

v  Formula to Construct sentences:

Subject + shall/will + verb(base form) + object


 Note that: If the sentence starts with I or We then use Shall otherwise use will.

 

v  Examples:

1] I shall finish my project.

2] We shall work for the society.

3] He will surely achieve his goal.

4] She will act in drama.

5] India will become powerful country in the world.

 

How to Make the Simple Future Tense Negative:

 

v   Formula to Construct sentences:

Subject + shall/will + not + verb(base form) + object


v  Examples:

1]He will not say anything bad about his boss.

2]I will not finish my homework in time for class.

3] We will not go to the shopping in that market this Monday.

4] I will not attend the program because of my busy schedule.

5] She will not come to college.

 

The Simple future tense is also formed with the use of a form of "going to"

 

v  Formula to Construct sentences:

Subject + am/is/are+ going to + verb(base form) + object

 

 

           We usually use am, is or are + going to + the base form of the verb to talk about actions in the future that have already been decided on.

 

v  Examples: 

1]The volcano is going to explode.

2] Mom is going to work.

3] I am going to buy a new car.

4] She is going to be a professional dancer when she grows up.

5] He is going to spend his vacation in Manali.

 

 

Ø Difference between will and going to:

Will is used in the simple future tense when the decision is immediate.

Going to is used in the simple tense when decision is not immediate.


Will is used to express the future as a fact. It is used to express what we think might happen in the future and when we decide at the time of speaking that something has to be done in the future.

Going to form is used for a decision that has been taken before speaking for something which is likely to happen for sure in the future and to express an action at the point of happening.

 

 

2)     Continuous Future Tense

           

            The future continuous tense, sometimes also referred to as the future progressive tense, is a verb tense that indicates that something will occur in the future and continue for an expected length of time.

 

v  Formula to Construct sentences:

Subject + shall be/will be +verb + ing + object

 

 

 

 

Note that: If the sentence starts with I or We then use shall be otherwise use will be.

 

v  Examples:

             1] I shall be helping him to do the task.

2] They will be playing hockey in that field

3] Students will be learning new lessons next year.

4] He will be listening music.

5] They will be searching for new jobs.
